Despite its majestic seaside locale, and the lure of the mediterranean beaches dotted with colorful umbrellas, the dress code for the Cannes Film Festival is devoid of itty, bitty Bardot bikinis. Instead, the week-long cinematic affair (19 films will be competing for this year’s prestigious Palme d’Or) demands chic, summery dresses and suits for day and sweeping, floor-length gowns and spiffed-up tuxedos at night. Racing from an afternoon champagne at the Hôtel du Cap to walking in front of the Palais’ paparazzi pit requires a deft, and sometimes speedy maquillage transformation.
As a red-carpet makeup artist back in Tinseltown, Kira Nasrat knows what to do when time is short and rising temperatures and surfside humidity threaten to ruin a look. “Summertime makeup should be light, effortless and pretty, especially for those hot nights,” she explains. “The last thing you want is for your makeup to look like it’s too much and melt.” Here, the seasoned artist, who regularly tends Jamie Chung and Olivia Thrilby’s complexions, shares her no-fail look for a balmy evening affair.

“This specific color of blue looks gorgeous on all eye colors and skin tones. Since it is waterproof you actually don’t need a shadow primer. This will stay put even on those hot summer nights. Apply it to your waterline or wear it winged.”

“The waterproof and, therefore, sweatproof mascara gives great length and definition, which offers a more natural effect. If bottom-lash mascara isn’t your usual look, add it to the lower lashes for a flirty, unexpected kick. Remember: This formula will not smudge!”

“Apply the product on your lips directly with the sponge applicator, then do the same on your cheeks, but blend out the creamy pigment into the skin with your fingers. For a more dramatic, ombré lip look, dab more product to the center of your mouth and diffuse it outwards with a lip brush.”
