“I’ve spent my whole life in Los Angeles, and it has inspired my artistry in so many ways,” says the hairstylist Mara Roszak. That free-spirited Laurel Canyon upbringing is reflected in the understated cool she brings to red-carpet looks for Emma Stone and Zoe Saldaña. It’s also there in her clean, high-performance hair care brand, RŌZ, which just hit THE SHELVES at VIOLET GREY. “Hair has always been something that really puts me in my flow state—it’s my medium,” says Roszak, who enrolled in beauty school at 16 and got an early break in the aughts styling Sarah Michelle Gellar. She later cofounded the West Hollywood salon Mare, which has been a continual source of inspiration for her intuitive formulations.
As Roszak sees it, “care is the foundation for effortless styling”—and it’s what knits her community together. Earlier this month, RŌZ teamed up with the brand T3 to distribute kits to hairstylists affected by the city’s wildfires. There is mutual support with her clients, too: Saldaña is a RŌZ investor, and her just-announced Oscar nomination means that the two will continue their close collaboration for the rest of awards season. “We’re on such an incredible journey and high together, and that just brings joy,” says Roszak. In an industry town, connection and shared admiration are everything.
